Monday Minute: Move More, Do More!

It’s Monday and I know you’re busy. This feel-good wellness tip will only take a minute 🙂

Last week we focused on how a simple, 10-minute walk could jumpstart your exercise program. (If you’re a new Monday Minute follower, click here to get up to speed.)

It’s Time to Get Off Your . . .

This week, we need to tackle the fact that we often spend the rest of the day sitting on our butts—-AND IT’S KILLING US!

But what if there was an easy, fun, and effective way to MOVE MORE, and DO MORE during your day?

A healthy, productive day sounds like wellness heaven, right?

It’s All in the Tomato

I discovered the Pomodoro (Italian for “tomato”) productivity technique—and an app to go with it—-a couple of years ago. While the technique was not designed to prevent death due to “butt chair syndrome,” it can be a healthy side effect of its productivity focus.

I found this particular app to be my favorite.

Get Your Tomatoes in a Row

Here’s how it works (I’ll make it quick because I’m running out of time!)

  • Set up your little “pomodoros,” which are increments of work time. (45 minutes is perfect for me.)
  • Set up the length of your “breaks.” (I use my 10-minute magic here.)
  • Set up how many work intervals you’re up for. (4 is a nice target for the morning.)
  • Set up your “alarm” sound. (I chose “Happiness,” of course!)
  • Press “start” and launch yourself into a heathy, productive morning.

How fun does this look?

Simply WORK when it says WORK, then GET UP AND MOVE during your breaks.

  • Take a 10-minute walk (see last week’s post!)
  • Fill up your water bottle and take a spin around the office spreading feel-good wellness.
  • Do a load of laundry or go outside and get the mail if you’re home.
  • Get your dinner started with a quick 10-minute prep.

No cheating! You gotta move for the 10-minute break and get your butt back in the chair to work when it’s over. (Aerobic scrolling through your Facebook page doesn’t count!)

Do the math: 3 hours of focused work and 40 minutes of feel-good moving around.

It’s wellness genius if you ask me!

You CAN Do It!

My minute is up and you have places to go and wellness to seek. I’m in . . . are you?

Feel good. Be well. Meg
