Monday Minute: The Plan

It’s Monday, and I know you’re busy. This feel-good wellness tip will only take a minute 🙂

My coaching business is unique.

Oftentimes, I have one hour to meet someone for the first time, listen to their story (ideally the Twitter version), and then facilitate a few clear purposeful steps in the direction of some COLOSSAL life-shift they have on their mind.

No Time to Waste

To save time, I get right down to business:

“What would you like to get out of our session today?”

They share their story (not always the Twitter version), and usually end with one teeny-tiny request:

“I want to leave with A PLAN for making this all happen—-oh, and can we end a few minutes early so I can take the aqua class at eleven?”

Say What?

LUDICROUS! was my thought when I first started offering this “speed dating” approach to wellness coaching.

Knowing what I know about short-term goals, long-term goals, action steps, accountability, barriers, support systems, and the whole catastrophe of successful goal setting, I wondered what I had gotten myself into.

BRILLIANT! was my next.

If we can’t come up with a PLAN for getting your life back on track in less than 50 minutes, then what are the chances of you dropping that PLAN into your crazy, busy life when you get home?

Plus, I love YOUR idea about taking the aqua class at eleven. (See, you really don’t need me after all!)

The Plan

So friends, here’s THE PLAN . . . free of charge this week, and under a minute:

How do you want to FEEL when you step out of your bunny slippers into your big-girl shoes and head off into that thing we call life everyday?

Put it down on paper . . . claim it!

A short list will do . . . and make sure to include happy somewhere on there. You really do DESERVE to be happy, and it always leads to good outcomes.

Now practice framing your choices; all of them, around those beautiful, life-affirming, feel-good words. (It won’t happen overnight, but you’ll get better at it if you keep trying 🙂

  • How are you going to move for wellness?
  • How are you going to fuel for wellness?
  • Who are you going to hang out with, and do they make you feel well?
  • What are you going to do when the s*** hits the fan and you don’t feel so well? (You have a choice whether to be a wallower or a warrior—-yes, a bitter pill I also struggle to swallow.)

Check in with yourself regularly and ask how you’re doing? If you’re feeling even remotely like those words . . . do more of the same. No so much? Simply change course. What could you do instead to head back in a more positive direction?

Here’s the Thing

It’s really that simple. You know how you want to feel every day—you wrote it down. And I bet you know what your “aqua class” is—-that choice you need to make everyday to feel that way.

There’s a tendency to dismiss simple as ineffective.

But simple doesn’t collapse when you wake up Monday morning and your kid is sick with the stomach flu. You can still make a cup of tea, do a few stretches on the living room floor, or feel grateful that you also get to stay home from work that day. (Am I a bad mom if I admit some of my favorite toddler days were snuggling with my under-the-weather child watching Blues Clues?)

Simple adds up. It’s like 1 + 1 = a perfect 10. You just keep plugging away at the little choices until you wake up one morning and realize you’ve made BIG COLOSSAL CHANGES in the way you think, move, and feel.

You CAN Do This!
